All Creatures Veterinary Care offers the complete line of prescription diets
made by Hill’s, Eukanuba and Purina CNM. These are diets scientifically
formulated to aid in treatment of specific conditions and are prescribed by a
Veterinarian. Each pet food company has a slight variation in formula, and you,
your pet and the veterinarian may prefer one from another.
Along with diagnostics and pharmaceuticals, nutrition is an important tool to
help manage your pet’s health.
For example, diabetic pets require a diet with a high concentration of protein
and low carbohydrates to provide a slower more consistent release of glucose to
the blood stream. This may decrease the pet’s insulin requirements. Our diabetic
diets are Hill’s W/D for dogs and cats, and M/D for cats, Eukanuba optimum
weight control and Purina D/M for cats, DCO for dogs.
However, this diet would be contraindicated for a pet with renal or kidney
disease. In this case the protein content is reduced, as is phosphorous and
sodium to aid in reducing the kidneys’ workload disposing of nitrogenous waste
products.
A common problem is obesity. This condition over time can lead to other more
serious problems such as arthritis, diabetes, heart disease and hypertension. We
offer several weight reduction or maintenance diets such as Hill’s R/D,W/D,
Purina OM, and Eukanuba restricted calorie or Optimum weight control.
Good weight management starts with a visit to the veterinarian to assess the
pet’s general health and condition. Indications of a possible future problem can
be addressed early and even prevented with the help of a condition specific
supportive diet in addition to treatment recommended by the veterinarian.
